Five for Friday {Linky Party.. March 20th}

It's time again to link up with Doodle Bugs on her Five for Friday Linky Party!

Wow, what a week, some of it I can discuss and leave pictures of and some I don't even know where to start.  Hope you all had a great week and I have one more week and I am on SPRING BREAK!!

I am so glad that it is finally getting closer to spring in Georgia.  I have been wondering if spring going to  make it here.  Now I see trees blooming and with all that comes the dreaded pollen.  UGH!

So I won this wonderful Amazon gift card (Thank you Writing Pad Dad!) and I went shopping and bought some books.  I know, I didn't spend money on myself, I spent it on my classroom because I love books.  Here are a few I selected:

Can't wait to use these books when we start our plant and weather units.

Next, I couldn't resist buying this game I saw blogged about.  It is called "Fish In Line" and it is from Learning Resources.  I wanted something fun to work on non-standard measures and I can't wait to use this next week either.

I also ordered some really cool dinosaurs to have fun with fractions next week as we end our unit.

Last, but not least, is the UPS guy brought all of my goodies I listed today.  T-Bone absolutely loves for the UPS dude to come knocking, because he knows what is inside of the box.  I deliberately left the box opened enough to see what he would do.  Yep, you guessed it, he opened the box and pulled ALL of the bubble wrap out of the box and popped every single bubble.  I took a video of him doing it so you could laugh along with me while he battles the bubble wrap.

That is my "Five for Friday" and I hope you enjoyed watching T-Bone.  Oh, and he did pop every single bubble too!

Here's to a wonderful weekend for everyone!  Relax and ENJOY!

Techie Stuff for my Fellow Bloggers!!!

Atlanta Mass Transit Made Simple!

Linking Up With Technology Tailgate!

Hey All, I haven't blogged in like forever and was home today after going to an eye doctor appointment.  I was waiting until I could actually see the print on my screen before I started typing.  OUCH! I don't like having my eyes dilated and then having bright lights in them makes it even worse.  I made it home safely and I am thankful.  I was listening to this short video on the news on some really cool and very helpful apps for any of you traveling around Atlanta to conferences and meetings.  If you are just visiting or for all of you who live in Atlanta and want to take mass transit/Marta easier, this post if for you.  This app is designed to take the guesswork out of mass transit.  It was developed in Seattle and one of the co-creators now works at Georgia Tech (Go Jackets!!!) and what happened to the letter "T" in Tech on the building anyway?  Geesh!
So Kari is now an assistant professor at Tech in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.  She brought the technology with her and we all benefit from her being in Atlanta!  Go Kari!  Girl Power!!! The app uses GPS devices on MARTA buses/trains to track exactly where they are anywhere, anytime.

Right now it tracks MARTA, Georgia Tech trolleys (GO TECH!, did I already say that?) and soon Cobb County Transit buses.  Okay, so if you are coming to Atlanta for a Meetup or just traveling around the ATL you now have this convenient app at your fingertips!

Here's to technology and it being totally awesome!

Bright Ideas Blog Hop! YEAH!!!

How many times have you ever said this, "I need more books for my classroom library"?  Well, I found this nice little secret a few years back while teaching kindergarten.  I am going to share it with all of you so that you can get books the inexpensive way for your classroom library.  Have you ever heard of "Book Sale Finder"?

Click on the image to take you to their website

When you get to the website you will see the image below along with many other images on their website.  Just click on the state you live in and

you will see the next image that tells you where all of the book sales that your local library has coming up and the dates and times to visit.

As you can see I have one to go to in Alpharetta, GA on April 5th.  At my local library I go and get a box or two of books for about $10.00 to $15.00 per box. (they usually run from .50 to $1.00 each) I also find VHS movies really cheap since nobody has a VHS player anymore except me in my classroom!  If you get there early on the first day they open, or go when they have a "library card holder" preview, you can make out like a bandit in the book territory.  I then can use them to send home with my kids and not worry about them getting lost because they can be replaced at the next book sale.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, they have a Facebook page so click on the link below and follow them to get notifications.

Okay, I wanted to keep it short and sweet so you can hop to the next "Bright Idea" in our blog hop!  Here's to happy reading and book finding!

Now please head to the next blog in the blog hop and go over to visit Gina at "Third Grade Tidbits"…
Thanks for visiting and have fun!

Five for FRIDAY Linky Party for March 7th!!!

Yep, It's that time again, to join Doodle Bugs for her "Five for Friday"!  TGIF Everyone and I am hoping all of you are headed towards a warmer weekend and NO MORE SNOW?

I am stuck on making my "Word Work" stations more interesting for all of my firsties.  I went blog hunting for all of the ideas I could get my bloggy fingers on.
These are some of the items that arrived today via the UPS Dude.  My doggie, T-Bone, ADORES the UPS Dude because he brings his most prized possession; bubble wrap.  That's right, bubble wrap!  He ripped dozens and dozens of bubble wrap to pieces until none of the bubbles were left.  The fun begins when he gets the bubble wrap under his paws and pops it with his teeth.  My other three dogs run here, there and everywhere in dreaded fear of the popping sound of the bubble wrap.  The 4th of July is not a popular holiday at my house for the canine population.  Oh my gosh, how did I get into this insane household where there are more dogs than humans?  LOL
Okay, here we go with item number one:

I already had these, but I needed more so I bought one of each and I can't wait to add them.

Yep, I got stencils and I bought two of them for extra fun.  I can't wait to see what they do with these.

Loved this idea using foam letters and will add them on Monday to all the other insanity.

Yep, how can you have "working on words" without wooden letters?  I love these wooden tiles and a little math thrown in doesn't hurt, right?  Just let them make the words that have the highest points!

Now seriously, what word work station is complete without wikki stix?  Love these things and they stick to the wall and everything else in the classroom.

Have a great weekend everyone!
